MEED awards recognise private organisations who are advancing the national agendas of the GCC countries

Dubai Duty Free, ACWA Power and Dulsco among prestigious companies leading the way in driving diversification 

MEED, the Middle East’s leading business intelligence company, has today announced the prestigious private sector companies who are leading the way in advancing regional agendas for people, diversification, society and sustainability. 

Regional governments are now increasingly focused on bridging the gap between the private and public sector and moving away from oil reliant economies. The MEED Awards aim to recognise companies who are strategic and innovative, that contribute towards achieving visions set out by the government and who are having a real impact. The awards acknowledge efforts in embracing macro trends including disruptive technologies, introducing sustainability initiatives and working practices that boost the development and efficiency of human capital. 

In its third edition Dubai Duty Free, ACWA Power and Dulsco were prominent winners at the MEED Awards among many that were celebrated for their impact and contribution towards driving economic diversification across the UAE and the wider GCC region.

With 60 companies shortlisted as finalists in 16 categories across all industries, the complete list of winners includes;  

  • Architecture Firm of the Year- Tangram Gulf  

Tangram Gulf is a multi-disciplinary firm, offering a broad range of initiatives that include urban design, architecture, interiors and landscape architecture across the region. They offer these services through a host of technological advancements in architectural design. 

  • Bank/Financial Institution of the Year – Bank Nizwa  

Bank Nizwa is the first bank in Oman to offer Islamic finance, and offers an entire portfolio of commercial banking services. With digital banking now becoming a reality, Bank Nizwa has made efforts to integrate its offline and online services. 

  • Business Innovation of the Year Award presented by ACWA Power – CDE 

CDE designs and manufactures wet processing plants and builds technology to transform the mining, waste and recycling and environmental sectors. 

  • Consultant of the Year – Khatib & Alami

Khatib & Alami is an urban planning, architectural and engineering consulting company catering to clients across the region. 

  • Contractor of the Year- Larsen and Toubro Construction

Larsen & Toubro is a major technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial services conglomerate, with global operations. L&T addresses critical needs in key sectors – Hydrocarbon, Infrastructure, Power, Process Industries and Defense.

  • Developer of the Year – ACWA Power

ACWA Power is a developer, investor, co-owner and operator of a portfolio of power generation, renewable energy and desalinated water production plants.

  • Energy Company of the Year- ACWA Power
  • Female Leader of the Year – Dr. Karen Remo, New Perspective Media

  • Healthcare Company of the Year- Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic

Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic, the leading fertility centre in Dubai focuses on providing advanced solutions to IVF and advises on the necessary requirements for family planning. 

  • Law firm of the Year- Clyde and Co

Clyde & Co is a global law firm with a focus on five core sectors: insurance, energy, trade and commodities, infrastructure and transport.

  • Logistics and Transport Company of the Year – Tristar Group

Tristar is a global business, head-quartered in Dubai, which transports, stores and supplies liquid fuels to blue-chip clients including international and national oil companies and international NGOs. 

  • Male Leader of the Year – Colm McLoughlin, Dubai Duty Free

Under Colm’s impactful leadership strategy and people-focused management culture, Dubai Duty Free has become a retailing giant with annual sales turnover of US$2.015 billion in 2018, cementing its status as one of the largest travel retail operators in the world in terms of turnover.

  • Manufacturer/Supplier of the Year- Dulsco

Dulsco, provides advanced solutions that make communities more productive, efficient, sustainable and better to live in.

  • Renewables Company of the Year- Sterling and Wilson Solar Limited

Sterling and Wilson are the sub continents largest MEP and EPC business today. 

  • Rising Star of the Year – Mohamed Attari, ACWA Power

Mohamed’s remarkable track record of leading significant projects in challenging markets have driven the diversification of the energy sector towards renewable and sustainable technologies, positively impacting the surrounding communities by creating job opportunities with a localisation index of 60%.

  • Technology Company of the Year-  EDX Labs
